Podcast

The innovation of distributing audio files and enhanced audio files through the internet technology known as Real Simple Syndication (RSS) has taken the world of technology by storm. Known as Podcasting, this innovation has become the fastest growing technology use in history. Educators and students have the potential not only to be consumers of the information delivered through Podcasting, but also information producers. Educators participating in this workshop will become familiar with the nature of this innovation, learn how to create and distribute educational content via Podcasting, and develop strategies for integrating Podcasting into their curricular area.

Rationale:

ISTE-TF.1 STANDARD: Technology Operations and Concepts -- Educational technology facilitators demonstrate an in-depth understanding of technology operations and concepts.
In this project I showed my in-depth knowledge of a cutting edge trend in education, a Podcast.

ISTE-TF.2 STANDARD: Planning and Designing Learning Environments and Experiences -- Educational technology facilitators plan, design, and model effective learning environments and multiple experiences supported by technology.
This project also demonstrated several technological issues that worked together to create a final lesson resulting in a student produced Podcast of their portfolio.

ISTE-TF.3 STANDARD: Teaching, Learning, and the Curriculum -- Educational technology facilitators apply and implement curriculum plans that include methods and strategies for utilizing technology to maximize student learning.
I created a lesson plan reviewing the possible issues involved in creating a Podcast.

ISTE-TF.4 STANDARD: Assessment and Evaluation -- Educational technology facilitators apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation strategies.
A rubric was created to assess student portfolios.

Reflection:

I found this workshop to be one of the most valuable classes in the TIE program. I have added Podcasts to not only my teaching curriculum but I have my students create a Podcast of their art portfolios. There are many avenues for the use of Podcasts in the classroom setting.
