Peripheral Proposal for Classroom C103

This course provided me with an overview of the personal computer hardware and digital electronics. The emphasis was on understanding how computers work and interface with networks and use peripheral devices to enhance student learning. Topics include computer logic; planning, selection and utilization of personal computer devices and peripherals; hardware and software troubleshooting and maintenance.

Rationale:

ISTE-TF.1 STANDARD: Technology Operations and Concepts -- Educational technology facilitators demonstrate an in-depth understanding of technology operations and concepts.
This project showed my understanding of the systems (hardware and peripherals) needed to advance student learning within my classroom.

ISTE-TF.5 STANDARD: Productivity and Professional Practice -- Educational technology facilitators apply technology to enhance and improve personal productivity and professional practice.
Through my proposal I was able to expand my current working environment to better facilitate student learning.

ISTE-TF.6 STANDARD: Social, Ethical, Legal, and Human Issues -- Educational technology facilitators understand the social, ethical, legal, and human issues surrounding the use of technology in P-12 schools and assist teachers in applying that understanding in their practice.
Through the new computer proposal I researched many different ethical, legal, and social issues to develop a proposal that would best serve all of my students needs. Pieces of software and hardware were chosen to best serve all learners.

ISTE-TF.7 STANDARD: Procedures, Policies, Planning, and Budgeting for Technology Environments -- Educational technology facilitators promote the development and implementation of technology infrastructure, procedures, policies, plans, and budgets for P-12 schools.
Through my proposal I was challenged to find items that would be economical, practical, and not be soon outdated.

Reflection:

I am very pleased to reflect on the success of this project. I was able to submit my proposal to school officials who were impressed by the thoroughness of the proposal resulting in the purchase of all items on the proposal. I feel it was an important step for me professionally as I start to be taken seriously as a leader in technology at my school. I feel that my students are the ones who have benefited the most from the new computers. I have had one student receive a $60,000 scholarship for her digital portfolio that was created in my computer lab.
