You will ultimately
create a multimedia presentation that defines and explains how technology
shapes our lives.
1. Working independently, research and create a working
definition of technology using the resources provided.
2. Create your own internet keyword and phrase searches
to elaborate on the definition. internetsearching.pdf
3. Ask yourself, ÒWhat does it mean to shape our
livesÓ? Interpret what it means
and add the answers to your working definition in order to create the basis or
focal point of your presentation.
4. Research and interpret the relationship between
technology and society.
5. Investigate the field of science. What kind of scientist do I want to
be? This will be the role that you
will assume. [Examples: Botanist, Zooologist, Chemist,
Biological Toxicologist, Physicist, AstronomistÉ] This decision will influence the examples and evidence that
you gather because your data must be related to your chosen field of
expertise. Save your data/notes
for your title screen.
6. Consider your audience and ask yourself the following
questions. How can I make this
message appropriate for a scientist informing and instructing future
scientists? What does a scientist do? How do they think? How are scientists
connected to technology?
7. Explore how technology has changed over time; make
some inferences, and draw some conclusions.
8. Using your answers to the previous questions as your
guide, gather research (using internet searches) that provide examples and
identify ways in which technology shapes our lives.
9. As you review and select ÒgoodÓ sources that you might
use, add them to your del.icio.us bookmark file using techweb as your tag. http://del.icio.us/about
10.Make sure you record all internet sources using the
complete URL (http://www.website.org/articles/may0307)
and the date the data was retrieved.
11.Take notes as you identify key points as the ÒwaysÓ
technology shapes our lives.
12.Using these key points from step 11, create a
storyboard or concept map for your presentation that explains and builds up to
an overall perspective
explaining how technology shapes our lives. storyboard.pdf, concept web2.pdf.
13.Develop your points using your interpretations and
evidence making sure to site your sources. Each point or component of your
perspective should be introduced as a new slide or frame and include evidence.
14.Using the internet and Fair Use Guidelines http://www.umuc.edu/library/copy.shtml,
select and download images (.gif, .jpg) that help you explain your technology
interpretation. Each image should directly relate to your text and enhance your
message.
15.Finally, create your multimedia presentation.
