Introduction

This activity is designed to both enhance the students knowledge and skills in software applications I & II, specifically computer based knowledge and hands on production of special projects.  Students will have fun while learning.  Students will identify all of the parts of the computer and understand how they function.




The Task

Students should be able to understand the basics of computer mechanics and demonstrate their knowledge by performing the following tasks:

  • Students will Demonstrate concept knowledge through playing a match or hangman game;
  • Students will demonstrate knowledge by drawing diagrams and labeling computer parts;
  • Students will Write a report on "computer components and how they work";
  • Student will Gather information on how to create a Web Page using DreamWeaver and HTML.
  • Students will take assessment via the web demonstrating mastery of computer mechanics and be able to create a webpage.

Students will use tools such as , computers, the web, dreamweaver and photoshop.



The Process

Students should use the following process to complete their tasks:

1.  Students will work in groups of two(2) to do all of the research required.  They may use the following link which provides information in all areas of computer basics.  Students will use the internet(google.com) to do the research
for their paper;

    a.  Students should write a 200 word paper on "How The Computer                   Works"
    b.  Students paper be typed in 12 font, double spaced.
    c.  Students should print paper out when finished, put in report cover and
         hand in to teacher.

3.  Students will use the internet to gather information on DreamWeaverhttp://www.w3world.org
    a.  Students will become familiar with terminology relating to webpage.
    b.  Students will be able to design a webpage and explain how it works.
    c.  Students will be able to create a webpage as assigned by instructor.

Evaluation

For research and conceptional task performed, students will be rated using the following rubric.  The highest score is 20

After students have completed this lesson, they will be able to conceptualize all of the basic computer hardware,demostrate how to use various search engines to gather information via the "web", and demonstrate skill based knowedge of how to create and design a webpage using Dreamweaver and photoshop.
