Activity Five: Student Created Photo Movies
Here are some ways that educators have used student created photo movies in the classroom:
-autobiographies
-visual book reports (students can even draw original images)
-digital storytelling of reworked classics (like fractured fairytales)
-a variety of writing projects (favorite place, important memory, poetry)
-interviews
-field trip reviews
-electronic portfolios of work
-digital storytelling of original work (Visit Digital Storytelling in the Classroom for information.)
-visual reports on a topic that was researched (Visit Microsoft Photostory Tips for ideas.) |

It is important to plan out a classroom project in which a large group of students will be creating photo movies. Make sure to take the following into consideration:
-Check on your technology situation: How many computers do you have? Will you be using cameras, scanners, microphones, and other technology? If so, how will you organize student use of these materials?
-Choose the size of student groups based on factors such as amount of available technology, time allotted for the projects, and comfort level with using the technology.
-Make sure to have storage space on computers, CDs, or flash drives to save work as images and photo movie files require a large amount of storage space.
-Are there technology experts (teachers, parents, students or other volunteers) that can come into the classroom to guide students through the process?
-How will you help students plan out their photo movie before jumping in? Consider making storyboards such as the ones that can be created through the free program, StoryBoardPro.

Plan and implement a class project that requires your students to create photo movies to help them learn or demonstrate past learning. Please use the rubric to evaluate the implementation of the photo movie classroom project.
