The Task
Your
group will research, write, and edit a single edition of your
newspaper that focuses on the Tuskegee Airmen. Remember that you
will do this twice: first as reporters for the Chicago Tribune (a
mainstream paper) and then as reporters for the Chicago Daily Defender
(a black owned and operated paper).
Include
in this edition: (1) a news article; (2) a feature story; (3) an
editorial; (4) a letter to the editor from someone about segregation in
the armed forces (could be from someone in the military, a relative,
activist, politician or some other person); and (5) a political cartoon.
The
edition should be creatively put together incorporating logos and
pictures within Microsoft Word. At the conclusion of this
project, there will be a Newspaper
Fair during which each group's
newspapers will be presented to the class and put on display for class
members
to read.
