DEFINITIONS
Here are some words that you need to understand when you do your
web quest.
- adaptation - a part of an animal's body or something it does to help
it survive in a certain environment. Such as a camel's hump, or wings
for flying.
- behavior - the way an animal acts.
- camouflage - being able to blend in with its environment. For
example, a brown moth sitting on a brown tree branch.
- carnivore - an animal that eats only other animals.
- diet - what an animal eats.
- environment - everything that is around an animal, everything found
in the area an animal lives.
- herbivore -an animal that eats only plants.
- hibernation - a deep sleep that helps an animal survive the winter.
- migrate - to move to another region. For example, some animals
migrate in the winter to find food or a warmer place.
- omnivore - an animal that eats both plants and animals.
- poision - something that can hurt or kill another animal if it is
eaten or if it gets into its body. Snakes have poison called venom.
Bees and some spiders have poison.
- prey - an animal hunted for food by another animal.
- survive - to stay alive.
- talons -the claws on a bird of prey. You will find talons on
eagles and hawks.
