DEFINITIONS

Here are some words that you need to understand when you do your web quest.
  1. adaptation - a part of an animal's body or something it does to help it survive in a certain environment.  Such as a camel's hump, or wings for flying.
  2. behavior - the way an animal acts.
  3. camouflage - being able to blend in with its environment.  For example, a brown moth sitting on a brown tree branch.
  4. carnivore - an animal that eats only other animals.
  5. diet - what an animal eats.
  6. environment - everything that is around an animal, everything found in the area an animal lives.
  7. herbivore -an animal that eats only plants.
  8. hibernation - a deep sleep that helps an animal survive the winter.
  9. migrate - to move to another region.  For example, some animals migrate in the winter to find food or a warmer place.
  10. omnivore - an animal that eats both plants and animals.
  11. poision - something that can hurt or kill another animal if it is eaten or if it gets into its body.  Snakes have poison called venom.  Bees and some spiders have poison.
  12. prey - an animal hunted for food by another animal.
  13. survive - to stay alive.
  14. talons -the claws on a bird of prey.  You will find talons on eagles and hawks.
