Process
1. First, as a class
we will do a KWL chart to see what we already know about butterflies and caterpillars.
2.
Second,
you will look at the webpage’s I have listed below. Be sure to really explore
the sites to see as much as you can about them! J

http://www.shrewsbury-ma.gov/schools/beal/curriculum/butterfly/butterflies.html
3.
Now
that you have seen and heard a lot of information on butterflies and
caterpillars, I would like for you to do a journal page. You can write about
what you would rather be a butterfly or a caterpillar? Don’t forget to say why
too. Do you like how they move around better, how they eat, what they look
like? These are all questions you could be thinking of while doing your journal
entry. Include a drawing and a sentence on your page.
4.
Later
we will share our journal entries with the class. We will make a graph together
to see how many students chose a caterpillar and how many chose a butterfly.
5.
Since
you have learned a lot of new things about butterflies and caterpillars, we
will make a project that shows the stages of a butterfly’s life. The example of
it is at this webpage: http://www.hhmi.org/coolscience/butterfly/index.html
6.
Lastly,
we will come together as a group and read The Very Hungry Caterpillar by
Eric Carle.
