The Process
B. Positive Outlook, your teacher, will review
this webquest with you and answer any questions you might have.
Motivational Teams will be determined
in randam number selection. Students will move to predetermined
locations in the classroom.
As teams, the students will chose
what job position he/she would like to have.
The Motivational Team will choose
which real world company the would like to be. The choice
should be made because the team wants to learn more about the company.
Maybe this is a company the team is interested in working for in
the future. Or maybe this is a company that they like and want
to learn more about. This
decision should be agreed upon by everyone on the team. If you
are having trouble choosing a company, click here for a list of possibilities.
All members of the team should research
(Internet, library
resources, newspaper/magazine articles, interviews) the company so they are at least familiar
with what the company does or makes. If none of these companies are interesting
to your team and you can agree on another company, please make sure
you get it approved by B. Positive Outlook.
After you have figured that out, each member should start researching
the company so he/she can accomplish their specific task.
Although each member of the team has
a specific task to accomplish, you will need to get together to make general
decisions such as when the meeting will take place, how many people will
be invited, will spouses be invited, how long will the meeting last, how
long will the entire trip last, which hotel will everyone stay at, how the
executives will get around once they arrive, etc. Make sure that these
general facts are incorporated throughout your presentation.
1. A report (2-3 pages) describing
the company
This task will be completed by the
Vice-President. Because I, B. Positive, am not familiar with your
company, you need to provide a 2-3 page synopsis of your company.
You need to write a report telling me how many employees work for
your company, where you are located, how long you have been in business,
what you do or manufacture, what your mission statement is, what some
of your accomplishments are, and/or how your company came into existance.
Remember, this paper is going to provide me with information so
I can help promote your proposal to the Board. This paper needs
to be created in Microsoft Word. If you need help with Microsoft Word, click here for a tutorial. You
must have 1" top, bottom, and side margins. It must be double
spaced and you must list your references. You are not allowed to
plagurize. You may use the Internet and/or any other sources you
would like. If you want, you can interview someone that works for
this company. You will be asked to talk about what you learned as
part of the presentation to the board in two weeks. You are not required to print out copies
of your report for the entire Board of Directors. But I would
like a copy so I can prepare my motivational speech. Be creative.
You will not be reprimanded for original ideas. Be sure to
look at the rubrics as
it indicates how you will be graded. If you have any questions,
ask B. Positive
Outlook.
2.
A brochure describing the proposed meeting
This task will be completed by the Vice-President
of Human Resources. You need to create a brochure which
describes what will be happening at the meeting/vacation. Again,
you will need to describe the events of the meeting along with interesting
places to visit in Chicago. Remember, just because you find a
place to be interesting, does not mean that everyone does. Be
sure to include resteraunts, events, and museum. You will need
to find alot of different things to do. Be sure that they are within
walking distance from the hotel or that your guests have a way to get
there. You may want to include a map of Chicago and directions
on how to get there. The brochure must also include factual information
and pictures. Remember, this brochure is a sample of why this
meeting is necessary. It will help promote your team's proposal.
You may use whatever technologies you choose but if you need help with Microsoft Word, click here for a turorial. I have found
a few website where you might find information about Chicago. You will be asked
to talk about the activities you planned as part of the presentaiton
to the board in two weeks. You may want to print out copies
of your brochure for the members of the board. Be creative. You will not be reprimanded
for original ideas. Be sure to look at the rubrics as it indicates how you
will be graded. If you have any questions, ask B. Positive Outlook.
3.
A budget describing the cost of the proposal
This task will be completed by the Vice-President
of Financial Services. You need to create a budget for
this entire proposal. You will need to include information
from all of the members of your group. Be sure to include
hotel rates, airfair, meals, entertainment, etc. You will need
to create this budget in Microsoft Excel. You need to make
sure that you have a centered title, the important information in bolded,
and that all of your formulas are correct. Remember, the Board
of Directors will be reviewing this budget and considering the information
you provide in the hopes of agreeing to your teams proposal. You
will be asked to talk about the budget and display it as part of your presentation
to the Board of Directors. If you need help with Microsoft Excel, click here for a tutorial.
Be creative and don't leave anything out. You will not be reprimanded for original ideas.
Be sure to look at the rubrics as
it indicates how you will be graded. If you have any questions, ask
B. Positive
Outlook.
4. A timeline describing the events of the meeting
or the history of the company
This task will be completed by the Vice-President
of Research and Development. You need to create a timeline
which either describes the events of the upcoming meeting/vacation
(itinerary) or describes the history of the company. The timeline
must have specific dates/times, be concise, contain pictures, and
be professional. Remember, this timeline is going to help promote
your teams proposal. You
will be asked to talk about your timeline and display it as part
of your presentation to the Board of Directors. You may use
whatever technologies you want. Click here for a tutorial on Kid Pixs. Click here for a tutorial on Inspirtation.
Be creative. You
will not be reprimanded for original ideas. Be sure to look at
the rubrics
as it indicates how you will be graded. If you have any questions,
ask B. Positive
Outlook.
5.
A presentation promoting the proposal
This task will be completed by every member of the
Motivational Team. Your team needs to create a presentation
that will promote your proposal. It will include all four of
the above mentioned tasks. During the presentation, each member
of the team must present their completed, specific task. You
need to use PowerPoint during your presentation. Your need to include
a history of the company, the budget, timeline, and the brochure. Click
here for a tutorial on PowerPoint,
if you need help. You may create as many slides as you wish, but
be sure to incorporate pictures, music, and even movie clips. This
is your chance to be creative and make your audience, the Board of
Directors, stand up and notice your team. Be sure to answer all
of the general facts and an other pertinant information that will describe
your company. Remember that you only get out of it, what you put
in. Be creative, use different technologies, and get people interested
in what you have to say. You will not be reprimanded for original
ideas. Be sure to look at the rubrics as it indicates how you will be graded.
If you have questions,
ask B. Positive Outlook.
6.
A journal describing how you accomplished this webquest
This task will
be completed by every member of the Motivational Team. Each
member will keep an electronic journal, which will describe your
feelings while working on this webquest. You need to e-mail
me at least one time per school day for two weeks. I will
give you the last 10 minutes of every team meeting (class) to work on
your journal. In your journal entry, let me know what part you
played on the Motivational Team, what specific tasks you completed,
how much time you spent working, what the other members of the Team
did to complete the tasks, how your team gets along with each other,
and your overall feelings and thoughts. Nothing you say on this
task will count against you and I will be the only person to read it. I
will not take off for spelling, puctuation, or grammar. I want to
learn how I can improve this webquest. All you have to be is be honest
and take a few minutes everyday to complete this task. Good Luck.
Be sure to look at the rubrics
as it indicates how you will be graded. If you have questions, ask B. Positive Outlook
.
7. A critique of other team's presentation
After the above mentioned items have been completed (two weeks), your
team will present your findings to the board of directors (your classmates).
The board of directors will critique the
team. Be sure to look at the rubrics
as it indicates how you will be graded. If you have questions, ask B.
Positive Outlook.

Notes
In this lesson students will use
technology skills, reading, writing, research, math, and fine arts to complete
this assignment. They will work in groups to produce materials that
can solve real-world tasks. This lesson is intended to be completed
in a computer lab with the computer teacher acting as Positive Outlook.
This lesson is also intended to be completed at the very
beginning of fourth quarter. By that time, the students will
be familiar with Microsoft Office and other software packages. This
is important because all of those programs are necessary to accomplish
the tasks in this webquest. This lesson is designed to last for
two full weeks, 50 minutes per class period. This will leave
approximately 3 full weeks for the teams to present. Provide
one blank CDs for each team so that at the end of two weeks every team
will save thier presentation on the CD. Have one or two teams
present each day until all the teams have presented. Make sure
that the audience is critiquing their classmates. The teams can
be grouped either randamly or as assigned by the teacher. The
only stumbling block I can see is that the students will not stay on
task. This is the responsibility of B. Positive Outlook. The teacher
needs to make sure that the teams get their work done and that it is
done on time. She may want to put the number of days left on the
board each day. The teacher should be be the coach, supporting the
teams and they complete their tasks.
