CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN HISTORY
CONSUMER ECONOMICS NON LEVEL
Instructor: ANDREW ASKUVICH Grade Levels: 11 & 12
Course Description : Students will be exposed to the necessary economic skills
to
successfully survive in today’s world. The first semester of the
course will prepare the students to pass the State Consumer
Education exam which is a graduation requirement.
During the second semester the class will discuss the events
and policies of the twentieth century. There will be more emphasis
placed on World War II and the postwar period.

Required Class Supplies : Notebook, Pocket Folder, Paper, 2 Pens, 2 Pencils,
white
out, highlighter,glue, 2 computer discs
Students will be informed in advance of any specific needs
for an assignment.
Course Objectives : Students will become wise consumers. They will receive
the basic
(Sem. 1) knowledge to survive both economically and physically in our
diverse society. They will also understand economic systems with
an emphasis on the U.S.
(Sem. 2) Students will understand events, trends, individuals, and
movements shaping the history of the U.S. and other nations. They
will understand world geography and the effects of geography on
society with an emphasis on the U.S.
Assessments : Written quizzes,worksheets, vocabulary,notebooks, performances
on
various group projects as well as individual projects. The final exam for
first semester will be the State Consumer Education Exam (S.B. 977).
Students will also be assessed on the basis of a 5, 10,15, and 20 week
standards based departmental exam.
Grading Criteria : No more than 20 % of the grade will be based on the 5, 10,15,
and 20
week exams. The remaining 80 % of the grade will be based on the
chapter quizzes, homework, projects,performances, and attendance
as required by the Chicago Board of Education.
Grading Scale : A 100 % - 90 % D 69 % - 60 %
B 89 % - 80 % F 59 % and below
C 79 % - 70 %
