Course description: Students will be exposed to the necessary economic skills to
successfully survive in today’s world. The first semester of the
course will prepare the students to pass the state Consumer
Education exam which is a graduation requirement.

In the second semester, the class will discuss the events and policies of the U.S. in the twentieth century. The class will place more emphasis on the World War II and the postwar period.

Required Supplies : Notebook, pocket folder, 2 pens, 2 pencils, white out, highlighter,
glue, 2 computer discs

Students will be informed in advance of any specific needs for an
assignment.

Course Objectives : Students will become wise consumers. They will receive the basic
(sem.1) knowledge to survive both economically and physically in our
diverse society. They will also understand economic systems with
an emphasis on the U.S.
(sem. 2) Students will understand events, trends, individuals, and movement
shaping the history of the U.S. and other nations. They will
understand world geography and the effects of geography
on society with an emphasis on the U. S

General Units of Study

Semester One You and the Economy,Earning & spending, Savings, &
Investments,Credit,Insurance, Transportation, Clothing,
and Food. Students will engage in Collages,Label, Marriage,
Family Budgets, Buying a Car, and Holiday Meal projects

Semester Two Emergence of the U.S. as a World Power, World War I
Causes & Consequences, World War II Causes &
Consequences, Continuity and Change . Students will
work on time lines, internet based research papers, oral
history interview project, Web assignments and quests.
Instructors retain the right to add and revise any other projects.


Assessments : Written quizzes, worksheets, vocabulary, notebooks, performances on
the various group projects as well as individual projects. The final
exam for the first semester will be the State Consumer Education
Exam (S.B. 977) Students will also be assessed on the basis of a 5,
10, 15, and 20 week standards based departmental exam,

Course/Classroom Expectations
Students are expected to use their planner.
They are expected to be on time for class with their
supplies for the day.
All homework assignments are to be completed in a timely
manner.
They must obey all school rules such as no earrings on
males,no coats in class, Id’s on at all times etc.
Tutorial schedules will be established as needed.

C 79% - 70%
D 69% - 60 %
F 59% - 0
