This
WebQuest is a regional study
of the United States for the fourth grade. While the students are
engaged in
this WebQuest the students will have the opportunity to develop
critical
thinking skills, cooperative group learning. They will also be able to
draw
connections between fictional and nonfiction text with real life
situations to
infer what the authors may have intended through their writing . The
WebQuest will be conducted primarily in my class room .The students
have
access to
six computers. The computer ratio is 4 to 1. The student will go to the
computers in groups for at least 35 minutes a day to do research
on their
states and regions. During Social Studies I will give them an outline
to follow
so that they can have something to follow. They should also have access
to
their Social Studies books, Reading books and other references.
Next, I will model for the students a
good
brainstorming session. I will also make sure that they know the rules
.I will
read the rules so that the students will be courteous to each other.
Each
student in the group will be assigned a job. This will help facilitate
the
gathering of the information. Also modeling must be done with the
students on
the computer. They must be able to surf the websites that are assigned
to them.
We have a lab and a lab technician that we can also access at our
appointed
time. I used the outside lab to help test the students retention of
information. Social Studies are a major subject that is tested for the
fourth
grade.
As the children do all their projects and
activities, they will became
experts
on their regions, individual letters, maps and stories they showed a
great
improvement. The use of the technology was the highlight of their day.
If we
could not go to the lab or something was wrong with the
computers
the students could work on their individual reports and activities.
Each groups
rotates around the room into each activity in a timely fashion. Art
supplies
were also
provided for the art projects, and storyboard.
If the student misbehaves then
their
computer privileges are taken away and they are isolated until they can
conduct
themselves accordingly. The students rarely misbehaved because they had
so much
to do. As a result of this WebQuest the students will become familiar
with the five regions. The students
will
understand geography and it's effects on society.
