This curriculum web is developed for the following purposes:
This site allows students to find out specific information about their class including assigned projects, activities and nightly homework. Useful resources are organized for students and parents that provide them with guided practice directly connected to their math text, links to informative websites addressing information that they are currently studying, and general math resources that are engaging and educational as well as entertaining.
I often find that parents who are otherwise very helpful and supportive of their children tend to make excuses when it comes to math. Many parents said that they can't help their children their math work because they weren't good math students, and don't have a strong math background. This then becomes an excuse for the child to perform poorly in my class.
I have designed the "parents" portion of the website to help parents in overcoming this obstacle of math intimidation. With this portion, parents can access to user-friendly websites and they can get in touch with me. Providing parents with a resource online is useful because there is no pressure on them; they can explore the sites at their own leisure.
For my fellow teachers, this curriculum web is intended to be a useful resource. When I created this site, I spent a great deal of time looking at my colleaguies' sites, making observation about what I thought was useful and what I should include in my own. Looking at other teachers' webpages, I had found ideas on the kind of materials that I wanted to include in my website. As a result, my website is also useful as a model for other educators who are interested in creating their own webpages.
