JOB READINESS SKILLS

I have been working in the Chicago Public Schools for a total of twenty – eight years. I have consistently worked at one school- Spalding High School until two years ago. I am a City-Wide Chicago Public School teacher with Specialized Services-Home/Hospital Services. I have worked with most special needs students and have been a high school counselor for eight of those years. Since transferring to Home and Hospital Services, I have been assigned to one site called Chicago Girls that is a residential site for girls aged 12-18 that are in a drug rehabilitation program. When there is a need at other hospital sites and my enrollment decreases, I also work at those sites. My most recent experience has been at Children’s Memorial Hospital’s Dialysis Center. The children there are aged up to 18.

My choice of a Curriculum Site for the WIT 2003 program is one on job readiness. In my experience, career aspirations direct and motivate a student to learn across the curriculum. My students come to me for all subjects at all levels and I found that choosing a curriculum for my site that I could use upon entry into the next school year proved to be an obstacle.
