Download Ready-made Frames
Here are several sets of frames, ready to be combined to create animated gifs!
Click on a picture below to download a compressed set of frames. You need Stuffit Expander or some similar program to uncompress these files. (Your web browser is most likely set up to do this automatically.) Each folder contains:Beside each animation below there are some notes on how the animated gif was constructed. Follow the notes to create an identical copy of the gif, or experiment with frame order, loop and timing controls, and special effects to make your own creation.

In this gif, frames 1-12 were used in order, with a 1/10th of a second delay between frames and looping forever.

Reusing Frames:

In this gif frame 2 was used twice between frames 1 and 3 in a continuous loop. The frame order is 1-2-3-2 and the interframe delay is set to 1/10th of a second.

Creating animated gifs from JPEG images:

Single frame (JPEG)The animated gif was made using frames 1-10 in order and looping forever. The frames themselves were taken from a movie; each frame was individually saved first in JPEG format and then converted to a gif using Photoshop. Because gif format does not work well to represent photographs (see the background reading for more information), the image is less sharp than the original JPEG frames, one of which is shown above.

This graphic is actually composed of 6 individual images. On either end are static (non-animated) images, with an animated gif repeated 4 times between them. The animated gif was created from frames 1-43 in order, in a continuous loop and saved as 2Rowers.gif.
