Ella Baker was born in Norfolk Virginia. She learned early what it meant to be black in the south. Her grandmother would tell her stories about being a slave in the south. Ella experienced success in school studying at Shaw University in Raleigh. She graduated as a valedictorian in 1927. She died December 13, 1976

CARTER G. WOODSON

Carter G. Woodson was born December 19, 1875 in New Canton, Virginia. In 1892, Woodson left home to work on the railroad then in the mines. In 1898- 1900 Woodson taught in Winona West Virginia .In 1900-1903 Woodson became a principal at Douglas high school in Huntington, West Virginia. Jan-Aug 1908 Woodson attended graduate school, University of Chicago, received B.A in March; M.A in August. In 1912 Woodson got a Ph.D. in History from Harvard University. In September 1915 established the association for the study of Negro Life & History. In 1922 Woodson published a book called The Negro in Our History. In 1937 Woodson begin publication of the Negro History bulletin. On April 3, 1950 Woodson died suddenly.

Halle Berry was born Aug. 14, 1968 in Cleveland. Her father was absent for some of her life. Her mother now lives in Cleveland. Halle became a talented actor. Halle won the Miss Teen All American Beauty. She competed through 7 contests. She went to Bedford High. Halle was a cheerleader, was on the honor society, and even became a class president. One of Halle’s favorite books is My Sister by Julia A. Boyd. One of her favorite musicians is Angie Stone. Her role models are Oprah Winfrey and Yvonne Sims. Halle’s sign is a Leo. Two movies that Halle played in are “Gothika” and “Cat Woman.” Halle is starring in a new movie called “Cat Woman.” The movie is about a shy woman and she turns into a cat. It is also about her in love with a man. She is a great actor.
